GEORGETOWN, SC – The South Carolina Highway Patrol say an ATV driver is dead after a collision with a car on Big Dam Swamp Road in Georgetown County, reports Count on News 2.

According to officials, the collision occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16th, when an ATV traveling southbound on Big Dam Swamp Road was rear-ended by a tailing 1998 Ford F-150. The ATV driver was killed in the accident.

The truck driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and did not sustain injuries. There were no passengers in the truck.

Driver airlifted after collision with log truck on Maryville bridge

GEORGETOWN, SC – A medical helicopter was called to the scene of an accident yesterday after timber from a logging truck crashed into an SUV’s windshield and trapped its driver inside, GAB News reports.

The incident occurred in the northbound lanes of the Maryville Bridge and was reported shortly after noon on December 21. A follow-up post from Todd’s Roadside Service and Towing suggested that the driver would survive his injuries, but we cannot independently confirm that at this time.

GOOSE CREEK, SC – A Century Aluminum Company worker was killed last Thursday in a forklift accident at the Mt. Holly smelting facility in Goose Creek, reports The News & Observer.

According to the Berkeley County coroner, 63-year-old Naomi Cleaton of St. Stephen was struck by a forklift at the smelting facility last Thursday, December 17th. Cleaton was declared deceased at the scene, despite emergency responders’ efforts to treat her injuries.

Century Aluminum Company said it will fully cooperate with authorities as the circumstances of the accident are investigated.

The South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration expects their investigation of the incident to last eight weeks or more.

According to the company website, Century Aluminum Company operates the Mt. Holly facility in addition to two other smelting facilities in Kentucky.
