AIKEN COUNTY, SC – A teenager died in a head-on collision on U.S. 78, near the intersection with Cedar Branch Road on Tuesday, July 20.

According to The State, 17-year-old Shajira Betties was heading west on U.S. 78. She veered off the right side of the highway before overcorrecting and crossing the centerline. Her 2013 Nissan Altima collided head-on with a 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Betties died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured.

Officials are investigating what caused Betties to veer off the road initially.
