COLLETON CO., SC – A 20-year-old man suffered injuries in an accident caused by falling asleep at the wheel Thursday, according to WCBD.

The accident reportedly took place on Charleston Highway near Neyles on June 17th. After the driver fell asleep, the vehicle exited the roadway and collided head-on with a tree. The vehicle then caught fire on impact.

The driver had been wearing a seatbelt and was able to escape from the vehicle. He was taken to Colleton Medical Center for treatment and is in stable condition.

South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
