MARLBORO COUNTY, SC – A man is facing felony charges following a crash in Marlboro County yesterday that led to the death of one person and the hospitalization of several others.

According to WPDE News, the crash occurred around 4 p.m. on June 19, near the North Carolina state line on Highway 79, near Adamsville Road and about 4.7 miles north of Adamsville Crossroads.

24-year-old McColl resident Payton Nicolas Grooms, driving a Jeep Wrangler, reportedly went over the center line and into the lane of oncoming traffic. There, he crashed into another vehicle.

A passenger was killed in the accident.

Multiple people were taken to the hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Grooms is facing charges of felony fatal DUI and felony DUI with serious bodily injury.
