ORANGEBURG CO., SC – One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident near Branchville Saturday night, reports WCSC.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident took place on U.S. 21 southbound near Wire Road around 9:40 PM on May 8th. The driver of a 2014 Chevy Impala veered off the road to the right before overcorrecting and running off the left side of the road. Their vehicle subsequently crashed into a ditch and struck a tree head-on.

The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and unfortunately died by the time first responders arrived. The coroner’s office has not yet identified the deceased.

The driver had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
