CHEROKEE CO., SC – One person has died after a single-vehicle accident early Friday morning, reports WSPA.

According to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, the accident took place on McGill Highway at 12:53 AM on April 2nd. A Nissan Pathfinder exited the roadway and collided with a tree before overturning in an embankment. The Nissan caught fire on impact of the crash.

It took first responders over an hour to extinguish the fire and free the driver from the vehicle. The driver sadly died as a result of their injuries. The coroner’s office has not yet released their identity.

South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
