FLORENCE CO., SC – One person has died after being trapped inside a home that caught fire Wednesday morning, reports WBTW

Howe Springs Fire Rescue received the emergency call at 6:35 AM on February 24th and responded to the fire reported in the 3000 block of East Effingham Highway. Emergency crews were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes and discovered one person trapped in a bedroom.

The trapped victim had sustained serious injuries and died at the scene of the fire. The coroner’s office has yet to release their identity. 

Officials request that all community members ensure that they have working smoke alarms in their homes and reach out to the fire department for help if needed. 

Effingham Highway was temporarily closed, but has since reopened.
