SUMTER, SC – A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash that occurred near where US 378 intersects with US 76, local media reports.

58-year-old Vernon Myers was driving east on 378 at about 9:15 p.m. on February 11, 2021, when he lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado crashed over the raised median and into the westbound lanes, where it struck a 2016 Ford F-150 and was then T-boned by an F-550. A wheel went flying off the Silverado and struck a 2014 Dodge Caravan.

Myers died at the scene.

Emergency responders transported the F-550’s driver to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital with unspecified injuries. No one else was hurt.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the incident.
