SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC – A 38-year-old Campobello driver was killed in a crash when attempting to flee from police on Tuesday night.

According to WSPA, the fatal accident happened on Ray Blackley Road near Peachtree Road around 9 p.m. on February 2, 2021.

Wayne Keith Smith, Jr. was attempting to evade Polk County police in North Carolina when his vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

Smith, Jr. was pronounced dead at the crash scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
