COLLETON COUNTY, SC – A man was killed after crashing into a firetruck that was assisting a prior crash on northbound I-95 on Saturday evening.

A 42-year-old man was traveling northbound on I-95 in a 2008 Nissan Altima when he rear-ended Engine 26 around 11:30 p.m., according to WCBW News.

Engine 26 was assisting another crash that was in the median. The firefighters fought to extricate the driver as the collision caused the vehicle to catch fire. Authorities report the driver was not wearing his seat belt.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damages in the crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
