Practicing in the Heart of Georgetown: A Law Office With Deep Roots
From our office on Screven Street, you don’t have to look far to be reminded that Georgetown has a long memory. We are proud to practice in the heart of a town where so much history is still standing.
We have been in this same building since opening the firm in 2015, but legal work has been done here much longer than that. In fact, one of our grandfathers once practiced law from this same office, which gives the space an even deeper connection to the town around it.
A City With a Story
Our location feels especially meaningful because Georgetown isn’t just old; it’s historic. Founded in 1729, it is one of the oldest communities in South Carolina. It’s actually the state’s third-oldest city, after Charleston and Beaufort. Unlike those places, though, Georgetown didn’t have the same level of destruction from war and earthquakes. Much of its historic character has remained intact because of that.
From our front door, you’re never far from the landmarks that define the town. Our office sits between the old courthouse and the town clock, right in the middle of a part of Georgetown that still has the look and feel of another era. The courthouse was designed by Robert Mills, the same architect who later designed the Washington Monument, and it has been a cornerstone of civic life here for generations.
Even the street name carries history. Screven Street is named for William Screven, an important figure in Georgetown’s colonial past.
A Town on the Move
What we appreciate most is that Georgetown doesn’t feel frozen in time. There’s a lot of history here that’s still visible, but the town is also full of energy. More people are discovering Georgetown, and that’s driving real growth. It feels like the community is entering a new chapter, while still holding onto what makes it special.
We feel very fortunate to practice law in a place with so much character. Every day we walk into the office, we’re reminded of where this town has been and where it’s headed.
